ACK Mt Kenya Hospital, Mwea, Kenya lacks an operating room [theatre] for emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care treatments. Women with complications are referred to other hospitals, putting them at risk with a possibility of either losing the mother or the baby - or both. This project will save lives and expand the services of the hospital. Additionally, other patients in the wards with medical conditions requiring emergency surgery will no longer have to be referred to other hospitals.
The funds will specifically provide an operating table, a patient monitor, an anesthesia machine, and other improvements that will allow the doctors to care for patients there on site.
ADS is the development arm of the Anglican Church of Kenya. They operate many social service organizations such as hospitals and schools.
ARDF has been partnering with ADS for years, resulting in many changed lives across Kenya.
In their own words:
"ACK Mt. Kenya hospital Mwea is a level three facility licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) to offer both outpatient and inpatient services. It has a bed capacity of 37 beds. We are currently at the level of expanding our scope of services in a bid to benefit the patients more and improve the sustainability of the project. A theatre is a vital installation in a hospital setup which has direct impact on the management of patients and can also be life saving. We target low-income patients which places us at the best place to touch the lives of the less endowed in the society."
