Dear Intercessors,

Happy Easter!

I want to share with you part of a wonderful Easter Carol, written 1894 by George R. Woodward who was a priest in the Anglican church. It captures some of the joy we all feel at the wonderful news of Christ’s resurrection - and it reminds us that without this wonderful news, everything we do would be in vain. We base all our work upon the joy and hope of our Risen Lord, and we desire to proclaim Him all over the world!

This joyful Eastertide
away with sin and sorrow!
My love, the Crucified,
has sprung to life this morrow.

Had Christ, who once was slain,
not burst his three-day prison,
our faith had been in vain:
but now hath Christ arisen,
arisen, arisen;
but now hath Christ arisen!

An important way we share the hope and joy of our Risen Savior is in Disaster Relief and Response. This month, join us as we pray for survivors of natural disaster and those who are working to care for them.

Angola

In Luanda, the capital of Angola, the Iron Sheet Housing Community consists of families living under $0.50 per day. The Anglican Church is working with a group of these families where there are no adults, and children are left to care for children. ARDF has partnered with the Diocese of Divine Hope a grant to assist with food and shelter for these vulnerable families.

Cyclone Freddy

The longest tracking cyclone on record, the storm wreaked havoc on our partners in Madagascar and Mozambique. ARDF was able to send our partners funding to help with relief and the rebuilding of structures destroyed by the heavy rains and winds.

Other Ongoing Efforts

ARDF continues to pray for and support our partners in Ukraine, Turkey and Syria, and Northern Kenya. More recently, ARDF has also been privileged to support domestic efforts for the tornadoes in Mississippi. Disaster response is not a one-time event, and the Church’s presence and support is a powerful incarnational witness of the never-failing love of Christ.

Psalm 91:1-6,14-16

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.

When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

O God, our heavenly Father, whose blessed Son has taught us to seek our daily bread from you: Behold the affliction of your people, and send those suffering from food insecurity, drought, and flooding swift aid in their time of need. Increase the fruits of the earth by your heavenly benediction; and grant that all who receive your gifts with thankful hearts, may use them to your glory, for the relief of those in need, and for our own health; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Collect for times of scarcity and famine.

Almighty God, by your Word you laid the foundations of the earth, set the bounds of the sea, and still the wind and waves. Surround us with your grace and peace, and preserve those affected by all natural disasters. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, strengthen those who work to rescue or rebuild, and fill us with the hope of your new creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Collect for times of natural disaster.

Thank you for joining us in prayer.

Christ is Risen!
