May 2026

Friends,

Greetings in the name of the Lord! Summer is on the doorstep for many and with those hot temperatures expected for much of the south we're one step closer to severe weather season. Now is the time to start putting plans in place to respond to your own church and your community if a storm rolls through town. Please reach out to me if I can help you get started down the path to preparation.

ARDF is thrilled to report a full summer season of mission opportunities. We're specifically looking for 10-15 people to spend the good part of a week in Altadena, California helping with new construction homes through Habitat for Humanity in San Gabriel. I'll be leading a small team to stay together and work together as we support those who've lost so much.

Check out our website for other dates and opportunities! We even have two weeks on the books for anyone to come build new construction homes in Black Mountain this August and September.

Thank you for serving and thank you for supporting others in your place. It takes all of us to take on this heavy lift and with God's help we aren't slowing down anytime soon.

Highlighted Story: Baseballs for CA Wildfire Relief

When wildfires tore through Southern California in January 2025, they left a trail of destruction and disarray. Early on after the fires, ARDF worked closely with the Diocese of Western Anglicans and C4SO to help provide initial supplies and personal protective equipment for what volunteers could be mustered.

With a grant for a trailer through ARDF and the right hazard equipment, Vintage Pasadena set out to help the slow process of “ashing-out” over 350 homes in the next year—almost one home per day!

The church has been present not only in the lives of their congregants, but for the entire neighborhood, demonstrating faithfulness and fortitude in the face of despair.

Did You Know?

A disaster preparedness plan doesn't have to be complicated.

An ounce of prevention can be critical when it's time to respond after a natural disaster. Here are a few questions you can ask yourselves and your church leadership now so that when the time comes, you're better prepared to respond.

1. Is there a list of phone numbers or a phone tree set up to check on clergy and others in your church after an event?

2. If someone can't be reached by phone is there a plan in place to check on clergy or church members with mobility issues?

3. Would your church building or parking lot be available to organizations like ARDF to stage a response?

4. Consider identifying a parish member who would be willing to serve as a lead in that response.

Other ARDF Relief: Wildfires in Chile

In early 2026, a fast-moving wildfire emergency hit Concepción and nearby communities in Chile’s Biobío/Ñuble regions. Fueled by extreme heat and strong winds it triggered mass evacuations and a government state of catastrophe. ARDF supported Fundación CAMDES (Anglican Commission for Mercy and Social Development), the Anglican Church in Chile’s relief and social development foundation, to support families affected by the wildfires.

They responded swiftly and compassionately. In the immediate aftermath, 96 people received emergency support—including food, basic household supplies, and essential items—delivered through the coordinated efforts of three local Anglican congregations: Saint John's, San Pedro, and Chiguayante. Nearly 80 volunteers gave their time across multiple roles, from home visits and supply deliveries to follow-up phone conversations and pastoral care. The response extended beyond church members to neighbors, friends, and relatives in the wider community, reflecting the church's commitment to serving all those in need.

My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.
