A new borehole will provide a clean, reliable source of water for 50 families in the community of Gihanga, in Northern Burundi. Currently, there is no consistent source of water and these families walk 1-2 hrs each day for usable water. This borehole will easily supply adequate water for the community. Families outside the target community may also benefit.
The community is Batwa, a marginalized ethnic minority in Burundi, with a history of being forced off their land during past years of unrest. The current land that the community controls is not enough to support them, so most cultivate their crops on the lands of others, walking hours each day to these fields.
An installation of a well will solve the community's water problems. The site of the well has already been determined after test wells have been bored and an engineer has been hired. All that remains are the funds to pay the contractor to drill the well.
Yada is a faith-based non profit operating in Burundi. They work with families in identifying the dreams and desires of the community and finding solutions to create sustainable change while always pointing to Jesus.
For this project, ARDF is partnering with St. David's Anglican Church in Post Falls, ID. Parishioners have visited this community and have seen this need first hand. You can join us in completing this project to bring clean water to the church community in Burundi.
The community of Gihanga has no easy access to clean water. A new borehole will bring fresh, reliable, clean water to more than 50 families.
