Kamaiba Primary School is a thriving diocese-run school serving 1,100 students on the property of the Diocesan Cathedral, however, new classrooms are desperately needed! Cracked floors and leaking roofs make study difficult, especially when it rains. In addition to this, the youngest students are currently using a battered UNICEF tent and must move when it rains as it leaks and floods.
St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral in Tallahassee FL has a long history of fellowship with the Diocese of South Rwenzori. Each year, the church takes a team to visit Uganda, learning valuable lessons from our overseas partners, and works closely with Bishop Nason Baluku to see how they can support diocesan projects. This year, St. Peter's is excited to support Kamaiba Primary School by helping to build three new classrooms.
St. Peters and the Diocese of South Rwenzori have had a long history together, going back to 2005. St. Peters came under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of South Rwenzori until the Anglican Church in North America was formed, and they have been working in ministry together since that time. South Rwenzori is an area plagued by devastating poverty, high unemployment, difficult roads, numerous children without one or both parents, and inadequate educational opportunities. The Diocese of South Rwenzori addresses these problems through teaching the Word of God and providing quality educational options and health services. Their active ministry includes 650 parishes, 136 primary and 29 secondary schools, one hospital, and 14 health centers.
St. Peters’ Uganda Mission Team traveled to the Diocese of South Rwenzori this past March to help fulfill God’s commandment to love your neighbor as yourself, refresh and renew the Cathedral’s relationship with the Diocese, and to assess its progress and needs since their last mission trip in 2023. You can read more about this wonderful partnership on St. Peter's website.
