In this special partnership opportunity, ARDF is teaming up with International Anglican Church in Colorado to support the Thriving Center. A ministry of the Byumba Diocese of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, the Thriving Center provides a combination of spiritual formation and trade skill development. Offering coursework in masonry, carpentry, welding, and tailoring, it is a part of a larger vision of kingdom abundance and holistic development. The team in Rwanda has identified three specific needs for a new Conference Center which supports this ministry: chairs, a sound system, and sewing machines.
International Anglican Church
International Anglican Church (IAC) of Colorado Springs was founded by the Anglican Church of Rwanda 22 years ago. IAC is deeply enriched by its historic founding and ongoing relationships with the Anglican Church of Rwanda and specifically a relationship with Bishop Emmanuel Ngendahayo and the Byumba Diocese. Through this partnership, they state that they "learn so much about the larger family and purposes and kingdom of God. We are grateful to be able to assist in some material ways to support their ongoing vision for abundance in the community. We are grateful for the opportunity to seek additional funding for their efforts."
Thriving Center, Diocese of Byumba, Rwanda
The majority of the population of Rwanda survive through subsistence agriculture. This, combined with the traumatic impact of the Rwandan genocide of 1994, means that the population is in need of all facets of community development, including health, education, and economic development, as well as spiritual nurture. Bishop Emmanuel Ngendahayo of the Byumba Diocese of the Anglican Church of Rwanda has facilitated a vision of kingdom abundance and holistic development in the diocese. His team works diligently to help the people grow in each area.
The vision of the Thriving Center is to provide a combination of spiritual formation and trade skill development so that young people will have the means to provide for their families. Economic development is essential for the future of Rwanda, and especially this impoverished region. The Thriving Center offers coursework in masonry, carpentry, welding, and tailoring. There are currently 178 students. The center was established in 2018. Since that time, 1009 students have graduated. The director is Emmanuel Hakorimana, the first recipient of a university scholarship from IAC who came back home to serve his local community.
The team in Rwanda knows that long term success depends on the ability to become self-sustaining. They constructed a Conference Center to be used for a whole range of functions, from conferences to weddings to business meetings. The intent is to utilize the facility primarily for rentals, as a revenue source to support the education of students in the school.
