June 2021

Dear Friend of ARDF,

Happy “After Pentecost!” My prayer is that you will be continually renewed by the Holy Spirit in this season. We may be entering “Ordinary Time,” but as we know, these are not ordinary times. Actually, “ordinary” likely means “numbered.” But you know what I mean. Many days are both good and hard.

For example, we’ve received both uplifting and devastating news from Northern Kenya. Northern Kenya is in the middle of a severe drought. Even while students at Tumaini are excelling, many of their families and neighbors will go hungry and thirsty this summer.

Marsabit County can be an arid, inhospitable place. Drought only exacerbates the tribal tensions and extreme poverty of the region.
The 2018 class of Tumaini graduates amazed everyone with their high test scores. Three years later, the current class has also brought accolades to the school.

In case you missed it, we reported on our most recent development project activity. This includes a project to expand a seminary in Myanmar. The situation in Myanmar remains tense, but construction of the seminary continues and our partners on the ground do not expect to be harassed by a government eager to show the outside world that there are freedoms on the ground.

We are grateful that construction of Holy Cross Theological College is continuing.

Finally, we held our first ever prayer call. It was a sweet time of prayer for our partners and all our activities, based on the most recent prayer letter. We specifically prayed for our partners in India and Nepal as the pandemic continues to range in this region. We also prayed for peace for the many countries currently experiencing conflict. Our prayer calls are open to all, so if you wish to join future calls, let Emily or me know.

Thanks for living in the tension with us. We are so grateful for your continued support.

In Christ,

Christine N. Jones
Director of Mobilization
