April 2021

Dear Friend,

On behalf of all of our partners, both in the US and overseas, I bring you greetings and gratitude this Holy Week.

In this unusual year, we’ve supported an unusually high amount of relief efforts. In the past three months, we have sent funds to Chile, the DRC, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Nepal, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Texas. Wow! We’ve realized that relief events no longer confine themselves neatly to one season, and that many relief events remain unknown in the US. Not surprisingly, we receive more requests for relief than we can fund. Yet, it can be hard to fundraise for disaster events that are not in the US news.

With this in mind, we are excited to launch the Joseph Fund for Disaster Relief, based upon the story of Joseph and his management of resources in Egypt. Genesis 41 tells the story of Joseph spending seven years saving resources to be ready for a seven-year famine. His foresight and planning enabled the nation to be ready to respond to an otherwise devastating situation.

In Guatemala, the Rev. Dana Craft and his team distributed much needed supplies with ARDF funds. Dana sent us an update right before the Thanksgiving service in Campur, an area still struggling after back to back hurricanes hit the region last fall. We are grateful for these efforts and offer prayers as they are now struggling with a third wave of COVID cases AND an erupting volcano!

For those of you who are interested in more details about ARDF’s disaster relief efforts, we produce a quarterly Relief Newsletter. You can sign up for that - and other ARDF communications that interest you - here. The most recent Relief Newsletter is available at this link.

Meanwhile, progress on a 2019 project to build a Kenyan Bakery is continuing. While the church waits for the Kenyan Power company to upgrade the incoming electricity to handle the newly installed bakery equipment, the team has began the process of registering the brand name of the bread, a necessary step towards government approval. A market survey (delayed by COVID) will soon take place and we hope that the bakery will begin producing bread by Pentecost. However, in recent days Kenya has entered a third phase of the pandemic and newly announced restrictions may impact this timeline. Please pray for our partners in Kenya.

As we enter the season of Easter and as the weather becomes more amenable to meeting people outside, we pray that you would continue to find connections. We are grateful for your connection to us and the heart you have for our partners all around the world.

In Christ,

Christine N. Jones
Director of Mobilization
